Furniture is one of the most common types of junk we remove. We take items such as couches, sofas, recliners, chairs, tables, dressers, bed frames, bunk beds, and mattresses. We also remove many everyday household items like old decorations, storage items, toys, clothing, and other belongings you no longer need.
A common situation is when a room, garage, basement, or rental property slowly fills up with items that are still taking up space but are no longer useful. Outdoor cleanups can be simple, but larger backyard structures usually need to be taken apart before they can be hauled. We handle sheds, playsets, hot tubs, and similar outdoor removals when dismantling is required. Wooden or metal sheds are broken down on site and priced at a custom fixed rate based on the size of the structure and the work involved.
Playsets can take a little more effort, especially when the frame is anchored into the ground. We can dismantle the structure and dig out cemented anchors when needed, so these jobs are usually handled with a custom quote. Hot tubs are another special case. Most weigh around 300–400 kg and are too large to move out in one piece. We typically cut them into three or four manageable sections before removal, which is why hot tub jobs include an additional flat labor charge.
Remodeling & Construction Debris
Renovation debris can build up quickly, whether it’s from a small home improvement project or a larger commercial job. We handle cleanup from both residential renovations and larger construction projects, including leftover materials that need to be cleared before the next stage of work can begin.
For contractors and builders, pickup doesn’t have to wait until the project is finished. We can arrange a one-time removal or scheduled weekly and bi-weekly pickups during longer jobs, depending on how quickly debris is accumulating.
Heavy Materials & Weight Limits
Concrete, dirt, brick, sand, tile, and other heavy debris are handled differently from normal junk because weight becomes the main limit long before the truck runs out of space. For these loads, we generally keep material to about one foot high in the truck bed, roughly 1/4 to 1/3 of the truck. Filling a truck to the top with dense material can overload the suspension and push the vehicle beyond Massachusetts highway weight limits.
Heavy debris is also priced differently. Instead of charging only by the amount of truck space used, the quote reflects both volume and weight, along with the labor involved. That’s why these jobs receive a custom quote and may include a weight surcharge. If you have a large amount of heavy debris, let us know before pickup. That gives the crew a chance to bring the right equipment, such as wheelbarrows and heavy-duty shovels, and plan the load properly.
Large Items & Special Handling
Some large items need a closer look before pickup, especially when weight, size, or access could make the removal unsafe. Items around 300–400 pounds or more are usually evaluated case by case. Depending on the situation, we may need extra crew, additional equipment, or a different removal plan. Size matters too. If an item is longer than about 10–12 feet and cannot be taken apart, it may not fit safely in the truck.
Access can be just as important as weight. If a large sofa, pool table, or similar item cannot clear the stairs, elevator, or doorway, we won’t force it out by damaging walls, doors, or other parts of the property. For unusually heavy or awkward items, the crew can make the final call on site if the removal creates a genuine safety risk.

Not everything can go into a regular junk removal truck. Some materials need special handling because of safety concerns, environmental rules, or local disposal requirements.

Paint, Chemicals & Hazardous Waste
Wet paint, gasoline, pesticides, solvents, antifreeze, and pool chemicals need a different disposal route because leaks or chemical reactions can create problems during transport. Residents can use New Bedford Health Department sharps disposal options, while businesses such as clinics and healthcare facilities typically use specialized providers like AdvoWaste Medical Services.
Tires & Car Batteries
Tires and car batteries need a separate disposal route from ordinary junk. Whole tires are restricted from normal landfill disposal in Massachusetts, so they need to go through proper recycling instead. In New Bedford, Bob’s Tire Co is one local option for tire processing.
Car batteries are handled differently because the lead-acid inside can leak and create environmental problems. Local auto parts stores such as AutoZone and Advance Auto Parts commonly accept used batteries for recycling.
Asbestos Materials
Old insulation, pipe wrapping, and certain building materials may contain asbestos and require professional removal. The risk comes when asbestos fibers become airborne during handling. Because of this, removal must be completed by licensed asbestos professionals.

Grey-Area Items: What We Can Take With Conditions
Some items fall somewhere between a simple yes and no. We can take many of them, but they may need to be emptied, disconnected, drained, or checked before pickup.
Paint Cans
Dry, completely empty paint cans are fine. Cans that still contain liquid paint are not, because they can leak during loading and transportation. Those need to go through a household hazardous waste program instead.
Refrigerators, Freezers & Cooling Appliances
Refrigerators, freezers, window AC units, dehumidifiers, and water coolers are all removable, but the refrigerant inside them requires separate handling. There is a $25–$40 refrigerant handling fee per unit in addition to the normal pickup price. We haul cooling appliances to Data Recycling of New England in Assonet, MA, for legal Freon removal and responsible recycling. Washers, dryers, microwaves, and dishwashers do not have this refrigerant charge.
Lawn Mowers & Riding Mowers
Old lawn equipment is usually straightforward to remove once the gasoline and engine oil have been fully drained. That applies to both regular and riding mowers. Riding mowers are larger and heavier, so if access is tight or the unit takes up significant truck space, an additional heavy-labor or volume charge may apply.
Pianos, Safes & Other Heavy Items
A heavy item is not automatically something we will turn away. We first look at the weight, where it is located, and how safely it can be moved. Once an item reaches roughly 300–400 pounds, extra crew or labor may be needed. Pianos are handled this way, and safes must be empty before pickup. A large or bolted safe is quoted after we know exactly what we are dealing with.
Propane Tanks & Fire Extinguishers
Propane tanks and fire extinguishers can’t be loaded with regular junk because they stay pressurized and may rupture during handling or transport. In New Bedford, propane tanks can be taken to the Shawmut Avenue Recycling Center or a local propane exchange location. Fire extinguishers should go through a local fire department or approved safety drop-off that accepts pressurized cylinders.
Large Furniture & Difficult Access
A bulky wardrobe, bunk bed, or dining table does not always need to fit through the doorway in one piece. When practical, we can disassemble large furniture before carrying it out, and normal disassembly is included in the regular removal price. Computers and other electronics are fine to pick up, but personal data should be dealt with before the device leaves your hands. Back up anything important, sign out and unlink your accounts, and securely erase or remove the hard drive or SSD where possible. Any data left on the device remains the owner’s responsibility after pickup. From there, the electronics are routed through certified e-waste recycling channels in New Bedford, where they are processed for material recovery rather than handled like ordinary trash.
